This work aims to support the prediction of macro and microtexture in the design phase of airport asphalt mixtures, relating them to aggregates’ shape properties, compaction methods, and mineral skeleton parameters. In order to do so, the use of Digital Image Processing (DIP) was validated using AIMS2, whose macro and microtexture evaluations were satisfactorily correlated with the Sand Patch test and the stone matrix surface texture, respectively. Increasing the Compaction Degree and using tandem rollers cause a reduction of the macrotexture, and an improvement in the mineral skeleton characteristics. In addition, laboratory compaction can provide a prediction of macrotexture in the field, but microtexture can be better predicted from the isolated analysis of aggregates’ surface texture, being necessary the development of correspondences between statistical and physical classifications for so.
